The Douglas County Youth Orchestra was formed in the Spring of 1997 with five string players. Currently there are 140 students in the program and one conductor with several student assistants. Beginning, intermediate and advanced classes meet weekly and give several performances throughout the year.
Orchestra classes are open to all students ages 7 and older. Students will be accepted into one or more of the following classes: pre-beginning, beginning, intermediate and advanced.Younger students who are taking private lessons may be considered.
Pre-beginning classes are for those students with no previous experience. Students will learn how to properly care for their instruments, hold their instruments, learn to read music, and to play an instrument in an orchestra setting.
